The present article is concerned with philosophical foundations of the formation of beliefs and practices of patriotic education in institutions of secondary education. These foundations and practices are analyzed in order to get an answer to the question whether it is necessary to develop in educational system special methods of cultivation of Russian identity and, if the answer is yes, on what principles these methods should be built.
